New York City developer Garett Vassel plans to spend about $15 million to redevelop the property that used to hold Kaplan’s Awnings in the 100 block of Northampton Street in Easton.
Work could begin in April on what is expected to be an eight-story building with a rooftop restaurant, city Mayor Sal Panto Jr. said on Tuesday.

A 61-year-old woman living in senior housing in Downtown Easton was arrested Tuesday and charged with delivery of crack cocaine, court papers say.
The investigation was spurred by complaints from Sabrina K. Armour’s neighbors as drug buyers entered the secure apartment building with an address in the 100 block of South Fourth Street but which actually sits closer to the 400 block of Ferry Street, city police Lt. Matthew Gerould confirmed.
Several-week drug investigation in Easton leads to raid, arrest on Pearl Street, police say

Following a several-week investigation by the Easton police Vice Unit, a 56-year-old city man was arrested early Wednesday morning on a felony drug charge, Lt. Matthew Gerould reports.
Vice and Special Response Unit personnel served a narcotics search warrant just after 6 a.m. at 683 Pearl St. and recovered $1,500 in MDMA a mood elevator more popularly known as Ecstasy or Molly and $3,000 in cash, Gerould said.
Darren Cromer, who was taken into custody there, was selling a variety of drugs out of the house and controlled buys were made, Gerould said. A vehicle was confiscated from nearby Prospect Street and police will get a search warrant before going through it, Gerould said.

Security in Northampton County’s district courts is better than it once was if your biggest worry is keeping the employees from getting COVID-19.

The county court system plans to open Central Court on June 1, initially for preliminary hearings involving those currently incarcerated in the county prison, which is attached to the courthouse in Easton. After three to six months, the court plans to add preliminary hearings for those who are out on bail, as well, Koury said.
