Missing Livingston County woman s mutilated remains found, man charged

Detroit Free Press A man has been charged after the remains of a missing Livingston County woman were found Thursday in Detroit. The remains of Kayla Pierce, 29, were found 8 p.m. Thursday in Detroit, according to a release from the office of Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. The exact location of the discovery was not disclosed.  Dowan Knighton, 47, of Detroit was arrested at the scene and, on Sunday, he was arraigned on charges of mutilation of a dead body, concealing the death of an individual and tampering with evidence. Pierce’s mother reported her missing on November 24, 2020, according to the release. The Detroit Police Department, alongside Michigan State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, found Pierce’s remains.

Most of the charges are 20-year felonies.
