Speaking to the media during World Earth Day, he urged the MMDCEs to collaborate with him and security agencies effectively in dealing with the matter. “We are going to be tough on all the MMDCEs. Anybody who engages in the activities of illegal mining, we will deal with the person sternly because if the President says he has put his presidency on the line to fight illegal mining and we who are the representatives of the president are rather engaging in galamsey, then we are not faithful to the President and for that matter, we cannot represent him.” Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah
Gov’t not against small scale mining -Abu Jinapor
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, says the government of Nana Akufo-Addo is not against small scale mining in the country.
However, he said, government does not support any form of unregulated small-scale mining activity, and would, therefore, fight it to the end, no matter who is involved.
“President Akufo-Addo and his government are not against mining in Ghana, neither are we against small scale mining,” he further explained.
The Minister continued: “In fact, on the contrary, we want to promote small scale mining, and want to do so in a regulated basis, and in a responsible manner that does not compromise the environment, waterbodies, and deplete our forest cover.”
