Amid surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, the Assam government on Saturday issued fresh directives that will be imposed from May 16 until further orders. In continuation of the order dated 12 May 2021, and in the exercise of the powers, conferred under Section 22(2) (h) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the undersigned, in his capacity as Chairperson, State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, Assam, hereby issues the following directives which will be applicable in respect of urban areas and adjacent areas within 5 km radius from the periphery of municipal corporation / municipal boards/ revenue towns and shall come into force with effect from 5 AM of May 16, 2021 until further orders , read the order copy by the government.
Here are the new lockdown rules: All shops and commercial establishments shall shut down at 11 AM on all days. All vehicles other than government vehicles and those exempted vide Order No. ASDMA.24/2020/Pt-2/250 dated 13th May, 2021 will be allowed to ply in accordance with an odd- even formula to be decided by the jurisdictional District Disaster Management Authority between 5 AM to 12 noon. However, this restriction shall not apply to personal vehicles used for medical emergencies. There shall be total ban on movement of individuals from 12 noon to 5 AM daily, except for exemptions specified in Order No. ASDMA.24/2020/Pt-2/250 dated 13th May, 2021.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Saturday that Cyclone Tauktae will most likely be accompanied by rains and strong winds as it passes through the Arabian Sea near Mumbai.

While Cyclone Tauktae is expected to pass through the Arabian Sea near Mumbai, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said it is most likely to bring rain and strong winds for the city.

KOKRAJHAR/BONGAIGAON: Assam Minister for Handloom and Textile, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes (BTC part), Urkhao Gwra Brahma on Thursday visited Chirang district and held meeting with the district administration and district health authorities to review and assess the prevailing COVID-19 situation, including action taken activities and future course of action to contain the pandemic in the district in the presence of BTR Executive Member and in-charge of health department Arup Kumar Dey and Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner and chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Chirang, Gautam Talukdar apprised the house about issues relating to recent trends in active cases, deaths and positivity rate, vaccination process, availability of medical infrastructure, oxygen, manpower, home isolation procedures and COVID-19 testing facilities.
