UPDATE: Evacuation alerts issued for more parts of Castlegar

by Kyra Hoggan on Thursday Jul 01 2021 Crews battle the the Merry Creek wildfire located approximately eight km southwest of Castlegar. An interface wildfire near Castlegar has grown to seven hectares and is zero per cent contained, according to BC Wildfire Service, but the City of Castlegar Emergency Operations Centre says the blaze within city limits is contained. Twenty-five firefighters, two airtankers and two helicopters are attacking the fire. At 5:20 p.m., the City issued an Evacuation Alert for the following: -14th Avenue North of Highway 3 -Forest Road -Grosvenor Place. During an evacuation alert, this is the time to get prepared to leave your home on short notice. Get your grab-and-go bags ready (which should include several days of clothing, toiletries and medications), your emergency plan, copies of important documents and important mementos.

Quesnel s State Of Local Emergency Remains In Effect

SHARE ON: Quesnel City Hall (G Henderson, MyCaribooNow.com staff) Quesnel residents are reminded to avoid the areas of Panorama Ridge and Dragon Hill Road until further notice due to the potential risk of landslide. As a result of the land movement, these areas have become potentially hazardous which includes the use of the trail systems in both locations. In a news release, the City is asking people not to use or visit the trails located around Panorama Ridge. Bryce trail and the mountain biking trails south of the Quesnel and District Recreation Centre are still available for use, but the adjoining backtrails through the downgrade/hillside of Dragon Hill Road and Panorama Ridge are considered unsafe at this time and should not be used.
