There will be 300 more beds in hospitals for treatment of COVID-19 patients in Virudhunagar district.
The decision came following a review meeting between officials of various departments and Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Minister for Industries Thangam Thennarasu here on Thursday.
The Ministers said the district had 1,420 beds in government and private hospitals to treat positive patients. Besides, COVID cares centres were also set up to treat asymptomatic patients.

With the rise in COVID deaths, the need for more electric crematoriums is increasingly felt. Krishna District Collector A.Md. Imtiaz on Friday said two more electric crematoria would be set up in Vijayawada city soon.
Reviewing the COVID situation with officials of the Revenue, Municipal Corporation and the Government Hospital, Mr. Imtiaz said in addition to the existing electric crematorium at Krishna Lanka, two more would soon come up at Singhnagar and Vidyadharapuram.
He directed the officials to ensure that the bodies in the mortuary of people who died while undergoing treatment for COVID in the Government General Hospital were handed over to their families without any delay and all COVID norms should strictly be followed, both by the people dealing with the cases in the hospital and the family members of the deceased persons.

₹1 crore compensation sought
Relatives and members of various Dalit outfits blocked the road in front of Palayamkottai Central Prison on Friday protesting the killing of a remand prisoner on the jail premises on Thursday by a few inmates and demanding registration of a murder case against prison authorities for failing to save him.
When P. Muthu Mano of Vagaikulam near Moontradaippu in the district, who was arrested on April 8 along with three of his associates for an attempt to murder two brothers from another community near Kalakkad, was brought to Palayamkottai Central Prison along with his accomplices from Srivaikundam sub-jail, he was attacked by a group of inmates.
Court orders to attach movable properties at Collectorate complex

AAA The Second Additional Subordinate Judge here on Wednesday ordered to attach a list of movable properties from four offices at the Coimbatore Collectorate complex after the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) failed to pay ₹ 67.87 lakh to a 90-year-old woman as compensation for her land acquired in 1983.
The court issued order to attach movable properties from the offices of Coimbatore District Collector, District Treasury, District Revenue Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer, all situated within the Collectorate complex, on a plea filed by V. Saraswathiammal from Avarampalayam.
According to Ms. Saraswathiammal’s counsels R. Varadaraj and A. Subramaniam, TNHB acquired the land belonging to the woman in 1983. The government had fixed ₹ 200 per cent as compensation.
