LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The union representing Los Angeles County prosecutors filed a civil lawsuit today challenging newly seated District Attorney George Gascon s directives to eliminate three-strikes allegations and some sentencing enhancements, alleging that they are “unlawful.
The Association of Deputy District Attorneys for Los Angeles County contends that the directives handed down the day the county s top prosecutor was sworn into office just over three weeks ago violate state law.
A directive that calls for dismissing, withdrawing or not filing special circumstance allegations that could result in a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole for defendants charged with murder is among those targeted in the lawsuit, which also challenges Gascon s directive to dismiss gang enhancements and firearm allegations that can add more time to prison sentences.

POMONA, Calif. - Killed my son, tortured him and what are you gonna do about it? Nothing, screamed Melissa Rodriguez.
She was in Pomona trying to get the attention of LA District Attorney George Gascón. I wanted him to hear that out loud, that he’d think about it and at one point I shouted to him, what if it was your son? says Rodriguez.
Andrade s son was found brutally murdered in May 2018.
Investigators have said Julian Andrade was repeatedly beaten and stabbed until he lost consciousness. The suspects, believing he was dead, drove him to the mountains in Azusa to dispose of the body. Realizing he was still alive, the suspects stomped on his head.
They threw his body off a cliff, according to investigators, but still heard him struggling. One suspect allegedly climbed down to attack the 20-year-old again.
The three suspects were charged with special circumstances of deadly weapon, kidnapping and robbery – charges that would have put them away for life without parole, if convicted. With those charges dismissed in court Friday, they could be eligible for parole in 20 to 30 years.
