A Westmoreland County jury deliberated just one hour Wednesday before finding a former Somerset County man guilty of the attempted rape of Saint Vincent College freshman in 2017.
Hoover, prosecutors said, accosted his then 18-year-old victim from Kittanning as she walked in a secluded trail in the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve weeks after she started her first semester at the Unity school.

A former Hempfield woman told a judge on Thursday she never really knew the man who died from the drugs she sold him in 2019, but, in the two years since his overdose, she got sober, got married, gave birth to a daughter and has turned her life around.
Hollie Ann Schreiber, 41, now of Jeannette, pleaded guilty in January to counts of drug delivery resulting in death and conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 14, 2019, overdose death of 28-year-old Christopher Holleran. She was sentenced Thursday to serve up to nearly two years in jail.

A Delmont man was sentenced Friday to serve nearly two years in jail for possession of child pornography.
Michael Goodis, 53, was convicted by a Westmoreland County jury in October of 32 felony counts in connection with at least 30 different pornographic images found stored on his computer equipment depicting children as young as 7 being forced to commit sexual acts.
Jurors also found Goodis guilty of distributing those images and using a computer for that purpose.
“This defendant was not directly responsible for creating this child pornography but his conduct still has an impact on the victims,” said Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani.
