A Downey man who sold sick puppies to unsuspecting families was ordered Friday to pay $203,000 in restitution to 63 victims and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Gustavo Gonzalez, 27, was also sentenced to a year on probation and 87 days in jail, with credit waived for nearly two years he has already spent in custody, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney s Office. Gonzalez, who was sentenced upon pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of selling live animals on the street, was also ordered to undergo one year of counseling for animal cruelty and is barred from owning or being around any animals for the next 10 years, according to the DA s office.

Eleven Charged In 34-Count Complaint Alleging Widespread Corruption
STUDIO CITY On Thursday, February 4, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that the former mayor of Maywood and 10 other individuals are being charged in a 34-count complaint alleging widespread corruption that includes receiving and soliciting bribes, misappropriation of public funds, and embezzlement over a three-year period.
“No one is above the law. Public officials should be working to benefit the people, not their own bank accounts,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “Pay-to-play politics have no place in Los Angeles County and we are all deserving of a clean government.”

OXNARD, Calif. - The Ventura County Acting District Attorney Cheryl M. Temple announced Thursday that an Oxnard plastic surgeon was arraigned for 22 additional felony counts of sexual assault that were allegedly committed at his private practice.
Dr. David Michelson, 73, of Newbury Park previously faced a 15-count complaint that was filed in July 2020 and named one of his patients as a victim.
As a result of news attention generated by that complaint, the Oxnard Police Department and the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation received numerous calls from other women who claimed to also be victims of Michelson.
