A month into the legislative session, advocates are turning a spotlight back on an issue that failed to gain traction at the state level last year, even as the coronavirus pandemic exposed stark disparities in health care: declaring racism a public health crisis in Connecticut and passing reform to address long-standing inequities.

Ned Lamont released his two-year state budget Wednesday and he allotted $47.3 million in tax revenue from the second year of expanded gambling, according to a report from the Hartford Courant. CONNECTICUT Gov. Ned Lamont proposed legalizing recreational marijuana and sports betting as part of his 2021 budget plan Wednesday. He also proposed a new mileage tax on tractor-trailers to help fund the state s transportation needs.
He said his budget proposal avoids large tax increases.
Lamont delivered his budget address in a pre-recorded video due to the coronavirus pandemic. Normally, the governor appears before a joint session of the House and Senate to make his proposal.
