Jan 14, 2021 William F. Lodanosky, 82, of Lewistown, passed away at his home on January 11, 2021. The second of four sons, he was born on October 14, 1938, to Joseph and Frances Lodanosky, of Mahanoy City, Pa. Raised in Mahanoy City, Bill graduated from Mahanoy City High School in 1956. He took great pride in the fact that he had attended all eleven class reunions. In high school, Bill was a member of the Navy Reserve, then from 1956 to 1958, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Gatling. Following his service time, he was employed by Western Electric, did a stint in the Merchant Marines, and then worked at Bethlehem Steel and Merck, Sharp and Dohme.

Sentinel photo by TYSON BYLER Mifflin County High School will soon be occupied again as in-person classes are set to resume for Mifflin County School District on Monday, Jan. 11, according to Superintendent James Estep. LEWISTOWN Mifflin County School District will return to in-person instruction beginning Monday, superintendent James Estep confirmed in a letter sent to parents Tuesday. It will be the first time students have been permitted to attend class inside the buildings since Nov. 6. Estep said while the school district will do everything it can to remain open, the transmission rate within the community as well as the level of adherence by the public to mitigation efforts will ultimately decide how long that will be.

Morgan Earnest, a sophomore, filed that case against Mifflin County School District in U.S. Middle District Court in late October, about two weeks before the presidential election that was won by Democrat Joe Biden. The 15-year-old Lewistown girl said school officials told her she was violating a district clothing policy, adopted just weeks earlier, that barred articles of clothing “which contain political speech or symbolize a particular political viewpoint, including but not limited to confederate flags and swastikas, as well as BLM logos or phrases associated with that movement.”

Mifflin Co budget holds line on taxes | News, Sports, Jobs

LEWISTOWN Taxpayers of Mifflin County will see no tax increase for the county portion of their taxes. Commissioners adopted the 2021 budget during the board’s meeting on Tuesday. “I’d like to acknowledge all the work the departments have done in getting through this process,” said Commissioners Rob Postal. “We appreciate the cooperation of everybody. The cost of things never goes down. Your employment costs go up, all the taxes go up that you have to pay…But everyone worked together to make sure we could hold the line of no increases,” added Commissioner Kevin Kodish. Also during the meeting, commissioners approved a resolution to again require residents of Mifflin County to wear face masks in local government buildings to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Jerry M. Hile, 81, of Strodes Mills, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at his home. Born June 30, 1939, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Allen Hile Sr. and Eileen (Reigle) Hile. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Betty Jane (Smith) Hile; and a brother, David Hile. Jerry is survived by: children, Donald Hile and wife, Bonnie, of Lewistown, and Deborah Robinette and husband, Steven, both of Lewistown; three grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Allen Hile Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Alabama. Early in life, Jerry worked at the Giant Food Store, Marlette Homes, Trinity Plastics, and Bossert’s Hardware. Lastly, he was employed by the Mifflin County School District as a food truck driver, from which he retired.
