STATE TREASURER TO HOST FREE WEBINAR ON SAVING AND PAYING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

In partnership with Sallie Mae and the MOST 529 Education Plan, Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick is scheduled to host a webinar focused on providing information about saving for higher education and finding scholarship opportunities. “How to Find Free Money and Save for College” is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7. The free virtual event is scheduled to feature speakers from Sallie Mae, a nationwide consumer banking institution specializing in private student loans, and MOST, Missouri’s 529 Education Plan. Last week, Treasurer Fitzpatrick launched the Show Me the Money Scholarship Search Engine which connects Missouri students with scholarship and grant opportunities tailored to their skills. The search engine was made possible through a partnership with Sallie Mae and gathers more than 6 million scholarships worth over $30 billion in one place.

As the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare to square off in Tampa, FL for Super Bowl 55, Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick and Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis made a friendly wager between the two state financial officers. TREASURER FITZPATRICK ANNOUNCES READYSAVE 529, AN EDUCATION SAVINGS APP FOR MOST 529 ACCOUNT OWNERS

Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick announced the launch of READYSAVE 529, a new education savings mobile application for MOST 529 account owners. In the initial release, READYSAVE 529 users can view their account balance, transaction history and investment allocations. Additional features include the option to make a one-time contribution or set up recurring transactions, as well as the option to see how savings stack up versus peers in the same plan. The app is available for download in the Apple and Google Play app stores. MOST, Missouri’s 529 Education Plan, is a tax-advantaged savings plan for education expenses. Money in MOST accounts can be used to pay for K-12 tuition, and trade, college, and graduate school tuition and expenses. Contributions are eligible for state tax deductions, which can save families up to $864 a year, and assets in MOST 529 accounts grow tax free.

Wednesday, January 13, 2021   During Monday’s inauguration at the Missouri State Capitol, Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick was sworn-in for a four-year term by Barry County Associate Judge Johnnie Cox. The Treasurer was elected November 3 with more votes than any treasurer in Missouri history. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving as Missouri’s Treasurer,” Fitzpatrick said. “As a husband and father, a business owner, and now as State Treasurer, I value fiscal responsibility. Over the past two years, I have worked to increase government transparency, to support small businesses, and to help Missouri families save for the future. 2020 was certainly a challenging year, but I am hopeful for Missouri’s future and I look forward to continuing this important work to ensure that all Missourians are able to thrive.”
