Veteran marine scientist named co-director of two MSU research institutes

STARKVILLE, Miss. A marine scientist with extensive research and leadership experience will become the new co-director of the Northern Gulf Institute, a NOAA Cooperative Institute, led by Mississippi State. He will also serve as an associate director of the university’s Geosystems Research Institute.
Paul F. Mickle comes to MSU from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources where he has been the chief scientific officer since 2017. Mickle will assume his research institute responsibilities and serve as the new technical lead at MSU’s Science and Technology Center located at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County.

The Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center at The University of Southern Mississippi recently received a gift from the Mississippi Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) to support the center’s seatrout restoration program.
The $5,000 donation from the state’s CCA chapter was presented during the 13
th annual Ernie Zimmerman Friends and Family Live Catch Tournament in Bay St. Louis. The tournament, hosted by the CCA Mississippi Bay Chapter, is a way for local anglers to assist the Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center (TCMAC) in supplying broodstock

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) - The Coast Guard rescued three people Thursday from a vessel on fire offshore Pascagoula.
All three people aboard the commercial fishing vessel
Lucky Angel were returned to shore safely. One person was transported to Singing River Hospital in stable condition after being evaluated by EMS.
