CWD Detected in Two Additional Northeast Mississippi Counties MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) recently received “suspect positive” Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) test results for two hunter-harvested bucks from Tippah and Alcorn counties in northeast Mississippi. These are the first CWD-positive detections for those counties. According to a press release from MDWFP, the samples will be sent to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, for final confirmation. These are the first suspected CWD-positive cases in white-tailed deer within 25 miles of the Alabama state line. The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) has tested more than 11,000 deer since 2002. To date, CWD has not been detected in Alabama.

Rainbow trout stocked at Lake Lamar Bruce | Outdoor News Daily

Rainbow trout stocked at Lake Lamar Bruce The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) stocked 700 rainbow trout into the fishing pond at Lake Lamar Bruce near Saltillo on Wednesday, December 16th. According to MDWFP Fisheries Biologist Dustin Rodgers, “Rainbow trout have been popular with anglers of all ages, and provide a unique angling opportunity in Mississippi.” This is a great opportunity to introduce someone to fishing as well as catch some nice fish during the winter. “Anglers have had success catching the trout on inline spinners and crappie grubs the past three years. The trout will even bite a hook baited with corn kernels. As a cold water species, they will bite readily in the winter months.”

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks continue to search an area approximately 65 miles long from just north of LeTourneau landing south to Natchez, according to Vicksburgnews. Monday, a group used a spud barge as a platform to send sonar imaging equipment deep into the river and Tuesday a plane owned by a Madison Parish Reserve Deputy joined the search. The United Cajun Navy also launched boats and planes from Vidalia.
