The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 101 new cases of COVID-19 and five coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday.
Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 317,856 cases and 7,322 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.
According to a New York Times database, at least 519 new coronavirus deaths and 22,260 new cases were reported in the U.S. on Tuesday. Over the past week, there has been an average of 17,119 cases per day, a decrease of 45% from the average two weeks earlier.
The health department on Wednesday reported 15 outbreaks at Mississippi nursing homes. There have been 10,479 cases of the coronavirus in long-term care facilities, and 1,982 deaths reported as of Wednesday, the latest figures available.
