(WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 216 new COVID-19 cases and 12 new deaths Friday, April 16. New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 3 p.m. Thursday. Two deaths occurred on April 14 in the counties below: Rankin 1 Coahoma 1 Warren 1 As of Friday, April 16, there have been 308,737 total cases of the virus since mid-March 2020, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 7,139 total deaths. The state health department estimates there have been 297,362 recoveries.

(WLBT) - If you are between the ages of 18 - 29, The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and Tougaloo College want your help. The schools are trying to better understand the challenges young people in the state have faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The research study, Young Adults Against COVID-19 (YAACOV), will ask participants to complete a brief online survey and participate in one virtual focus group to share what they know about the virus.
