W spring 2021 Commencement to be held virtually, degree conferral in-person

Mississippi University for Women will hold a virtual commencement ceremony and in-person degree conferral ceremonies for spring 2021 graduates.
The W’s spring 2021 commencement exercises will be held April 23-24. The exercises will begin with a virtual convocation to celebrate the achievements of students, faculty and The W community. Degrees will be conferred at one of six departmental degree conferral ceremonies to be held in Rent Auditorium in Whitfield Hall on the university’s campus.
Graduates may stream the convocation ceremony any time after noon Friday, April 23. Due to public health measures, there will be no on-campus facilities for livestream broadcast. The ceremony will broadcast from a link on the university’s homepage, www.muw.edu.

COLUMBUS Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle Administrator Paul Cade has announced that Kayla Pruitt, RN, MSN, has been named associate administrator. She replaces retiring Bill Lancaster, whose last day was April 2.
Pruitt will oversee the hospital’s rehabilitation services; food and nutrition services; respiratory, neurodiagnostics and sleep center; EMS/ambulance services; laboratory; cardiovascular services; housekeeping, security/safety and emergency management; and laundry.
In his 34 years at Baptist Golden Triangle, Lancaster supervised more than $89 million in construction and renovation projects, including the construction of the Outpatient Pavilion, the hospital’s Cancer Center, emergency department, critical care unit, five-story patient tower and the 30-bed Behavioral Health Unit. TUPELO, Miss.âNorth Mississippi Medical Center recently presented its most recent DAISY Award to registered nurse Chelsea Coker of North Mississippi Surgery Center.
Coker was working as charge nurse on 6 South on Christmas Day as a patient was at end of life. âThe patient did not have any family. Chelsea spent time, in between taking care of her patients, with this patient so he would not be alone,â a coworker wrote in her nomination. âShe played him music, and she was with him during his final moments. Chelsea is a great nurse with a servantâs heart.â
Coker, who lives in Fulton, joined the NMMC staff on 6 South in June 2018 and became a charge nurse the following year. She transferred to North Mississippi Surgery Center in February. A 2013 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School, she earned a bachelorâs degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus in 2018.
