JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Medical marijuana advocates launched the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association.
This comes after Initiative 65 passed in November, clearing the way for the legalization of medical marijuana in the state.
“We are so excited to officially launch this association,” said Ken Newburger, Executive Director for the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association. “We already have over 50 members, and our goal is to make sure we give these businesses access to tools and information to give Mississippi a top-tier medical marijuana program. Our team worked so hard alongside Mississippi voters to pass Initiative 65 at the polls, and now we want to do all we can to assure the program operates in the best way possible for patients in Mississippi.”

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Now that Initiative 65 has passed, advocates have launched the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association.
According to its website, the association - dubbed the 3MA for short - represents the diverse group of business licenses in Mississippi’s medical marijuana industry and will work to monitor legislative and regulatory activity, advocate for its members, and to be a single and coherent political voice representing the interests of the industry.

Long since a source of pain relief, the ancient Chinese termed Cannabis “ma” – its Chinese etymology tracing it to mean “numbness.” In fact, THC, in the ashes of relics, has evidenced that Cannabis was first medically used around 400 AD – according to the National Geographic website – which further explains that, “in the United States, Cannabis was widely utilized as a patent medicine during the 19th and early 20th centuries, described in the United States Pharmacopoeia, for the first time, in 1850.” From that point forward, Cannabis quickly became one of the most widely used ingredients in American medicine. This leaves many, in our culture, to question: “In light of its past ‘medical reign,’ what exactly caused Cannabis’ ‘medical fall from grace’ – and its current resurgence?”
