Recent real estate transactions improve western UP trail access
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Dan Eichinger recently approved two real estate transactions that have secured permanent trail easements, which will help ensure trail connectivity in the western Upper Peninsula. These permanent trail easements, totaling 67 miles at a purchase price of $985,969, contribute to DNR and division goals and strategies by providing additional public recreation opportunities and securing trails for future generations.

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Senator John Bizon, M.D. announced Monday that he supports the proposed Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (NRTF) projects for 2021, including two development grants in Calhoun County.
âThe NRTF grants are for projects designed to boost outdoor recreation,â Bizon, R-Battle Creek said in a statement. âThe projects in the 19th District receiving funding will increase our enjoyment of the areaâs natural resources. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I look forward to supporting these local projects when they come before the committee.â

A proposal to repair a local pedestrian bridge was recommended last week by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board to the Michigan Legislature.
$50,000 will be granted to Hamburg Township to repair the Hay Creek bridge along the Lakelands Trail near Chambers Road. The 104-foot bridge dates from the 19th century when it was built by the Ann Arbor Railroad. Repairs are expected to begin in the fall of 2021 once the funds are approved by the Michigan Legislature. The grant requires a 50% match by the township, but township officials say that will be covered by funds received earlier this year from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.
