MHSAA says fall sports tourneys will conclude in January

(Image courtesy MHSAA) EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced on Saturday that all remaining fall sports tournaments will conclude by January 30. While the football tournament is now set to resume on January 9, it’s not known yet when the girls volleyball tournament will resume or when the girls swimming and diving finals will take place. Football teams may begin two days of outdoor, non-contact conditioning and drills, wearing helmets and shoulder pads with physical distancing, on Monday in advance of the first round of testing on Wednesday as part of an Michigan Department of Health and Human Services rapid testing pilot program.

MHSAA announces delayed post season dates for winter teams

  MHSAA Representative Council Approves Updated Winter Schedule EAST LANSING, Mich. – Dec. 23 – The Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association today approved an adjusted regular-season calendar for indoor Winter sports, which under current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) orders may restart their seasons Saturday, Jan. 16. All Winter sports activity had been paused by MDHHS on Nov. 18 to decrease spread of COVID-19. Girls and boys alpine skiing, with all activity taking place outdoors, was allowed by MDHHS to resume its season Monday (Dec. 21) and remains underway. If the MDHHS pause ends, indoor practices may begin again Jan. 16, with first competitions Jan. 22 for basketball, bowling, ice hockey and swimming & diving; and Jan. 25 for competitive cheer, gymnastics and wrestling.

Football and volleyball players were allowed to return to practice facilities Monday, then put on hold early Tuesday evening as a discrepancy between the MDHHS and the MHSAA delayed testing required to restart sports.
