Second seat on Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education vacated The Daily Telegram TECUMSEH Another Tecumseh school board seat has been vacated, this time due to post-election procedures not being met.  Becky Brooks’ seat on the board has been vacated due to her not taking the oath of office and paperwork about taking the oath not being on file with the Lenawee County Clerk’s Office, Tecumseh Superintendent Rick Hilderley announced during Monday’s board meeting. Brooks was re-elected in November and was the board’s secretary.  This is the second seat on the Tecumseh school board that has been vacated in the past month. Kevin Johnson, who was the board’s president, was removed from the board after it was discovered his appointment was not made within the 30 days after a resignation last fall as required by state law. Apr 15, 2021 GWINN The Gwinn Area Community Schools Board of Education has selected the three candidates to interview for superintendent of schools on Tuesday. Interviewing at 5 p.m. will be Glenda Oginski, current director of curriculum, instruction and assessment in Merrill, Wisconsin, and former elementary principal in Merrill; Antigo, Wisconsin; and Menominee. Interviewing at 6 p.m. will be Kendra Feldhusen, current K-6 virtual teacher in Newberry, former statewide field team leadership consultant for MI Excel and K-6 building administrator/K-12 instructional coach in Engadine. Interviewing at 7 p.m. will be Brandon Bruce, current high school principal in downstate Hart, former middle school principal in downstate Union City and athletic director in Newberry.

Holland Public Schools board sets timeline for superintendent search

HOLLAND  Holland Public Schools has a timeline set to select a new superintendent. According to a search timeline posted Monday, April 12, the school board has identified June 1 for final interviews and a possible decision date.  The district has already started the process of gathering input from the community in the form of an online survey and stakeholder meetings.  There are community stakeholder meetings scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, April 14 and 15. A meeting for Spanish-speaking families is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in addition to community meetings at 4 and 7 p.m. Thursday.  Community meetings will take place via Zoom, with links available on the district website. The meetings are being conducted by the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB), the firm hired by the HPS Board of Education to facilitate its search.

School Board Looks To Create Strategic Plan

April 14, 2021 The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education is shopping for a district strategic plan. During a work session on Tuesday, the board heard presentations from two possible consultants. They were Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates out of Illinois and the Michigan Association of School Boards. Benton Harbor Superintendent Andrae Townsel said the district doesn’t currently have a strategic plan. “We’ve just been working off a school improvement plans and district improvement plans, which are basic plans to be compliant for the Michigan Department of Education,” Townsel said. “The strategic plan is a game changer. Every district I’ve worked in prior to Benton Harbor Area Schools, we had a strategic plan, and we increased academic achievement and climate and culture.”
