ZEELAND The Zeeland Police Department has joined the ranks of just 5 percent of Michigan s law enforcement agencies as one of 34 departments to be accredited by the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. What s really impressive about Zeeland is you have an agency that has 10 full-time officers that achieved this, said Robert Stevenson, executive director of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. It took the commitment of the entire department to get this done.
To become an accredited agency, police departments must comply with the 108 professional standards set by the MLEAC and then must provide proof that they follow those policies in everyday policing.
KALAMAZOO, Mich.
Western Michigan University Department of Public Safety (WMU DPS) joins a select group of police agencies in Michigan and just three in Kalamazoo County to be accredited for its policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.
As one of just 34 departments out of almost 600 police agencies in the state, WMU DPS meets the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission s best practice standards to achieve accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and Portage Public Safety also hold that designation in Kalamazoo County.
