Michigan small businesses hurt by the pandemic limitations are getting help from the state.
Nearly 6,000 small businesses in Michigan impacted by the three-month pandemic pause on indoor dining and other operation limits are sharing in $52.5 million in grant funds from the state.
The grants from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. s Michigan Small Business Survival Grant program will go to 5,960 businesses and help maintain nearly 53,000 jobs, according to a Wednesday news release from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer s office.
Wednesday s figures show that, on average, a business received just more than $8,800. The MEDC received more than 34,000 applications for the funds during the three-day application window.

More than 34,000 small businesses are waiting to see if they’ll get a share of $55 million in state grants.
The Michigan Small Business Survival Grant program is meant to aid businesses impacted by restrictions on gatherings and indoor businesses for the sake of public health during the pandemic. A business could get a maximum grant of $15,000 if it has been partially closed or $20,000 if it is fully closed in accordance with state coronavirus restrictions.

JACKSON, MI Dozens of Jackson County businesses may receive grant funding to address costs of the coronavirus pandemic and business losses stemming from gathering limits and mask mandates.
Jackson County was awarded $704,000 to disburse to small businesses in the area through the Michigan Small Business Survival Grant Program. Applications opened Tuesday, Jan. 19, and will close at noon Friday, Jan. 22.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) Relief is coming to Michigan businesses after a board last week approved $58.5 million in grants for economic losses due to the coronavirus pandemic that has strained the state’s economy.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last month signed into law a spending plan to help repair the economic impact from the coronavirus. It included an allocation to the Michigan Strategic Fund under the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to distribute grants to eligible businesses.
The board approved two programs to distribute funds during a meeting on Thursday: the Michigan Small Business Survival Grant Program to help businesses that had to close or partially close during the pandemic; and the Michigan Stages Survival Grant Program to help businesses pay workers who were laid off.
