April 16, 2021 The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has extended some rules intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They include the mask mandate and gathering restrictions. The department has also extended the mask rule to children ages 2 to 4. It has released the following: Today, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) extended its Gatherings and Mask epidemic order. The Order – which preserves the strongest public health order in the Midwest – is designed to balance day-to-day activities while controlling the spread of COVID-19 and saving Michiganders’ lives. It includes expansion of mask requirements to children ages 2 to 4 to further protect the state’s residents.

Beaumont Hospital Troy reschedules inpatient elective surgeries amid virus surge The Detroit News As COVID-19 cases climb in Metro Detroit, Beaumont Hospital in Troy is rescheduling inpatient elective surgeries, representatives said Friday. All outpatient elective surgeries are still on, Bob Ortlieb, a spokesman for Beaumont Health, told The Detroit News in an email. Daily, Beaumont hospitals continue to assess all surgeries on a case by case basis, he said. The news came a day after at least eight hospitals across Michigan were listed at full capacity for COVID-19 patients. Beaumont Health had issued an urgent warning that its number of hospitalized patients has risen from 128 on Feb. 28 to more than 800 on Thursday, more patients than experienced during the fall surge of coronavirus cases. Beaumont s Farmington Hills, Royal Oak and Troy hospitals were listed as filled at 100% capacity, according to the Michigan Health and Hospital Association s database.
