CHARLEVOIX, MI Something has gone afoul in the city of Charlevoix, as residents report being harassed by a growing group of wild turkeys that terrorize passersby.
The incidents have been connected to an explosion in the city s turkey population, according to a report from the Charlevoix Courier. Although it s unknown why the population has increased, WKAR previously reported that hunting has been on the decline in the state for decades despite a coronavirus-fueled 27 percent bump last year in turkey hunting licenses.

A group opposed to wolf hunting in Michigan has sued the Department of Natural Resources. The lawsuit claims appointments to the Wolf Management Advisory Council are heavily in favor of wolf hunting in Michigan.
“The appointments to the council are clearly stacked in the favor of wolf hunting – and don’t get me wrong, wolf hunters have a voice too – but this is grossly in favor of wolf hunters,” said Karol Miller, President of the wolf advocacy group The 06 Legacy.
“The director has the Wolf Management Advisory Council stacked with people who represent or are wolf hunters or represent wolf hunting and trapping interests,” Miller added.
If you live in Michigan it may be a good word to the wise that we steer clear of turkeys for now. I don’t know if it’s the years of being put on sandwiches for the blatant disrespect they feel we’ve shown them every last Thursday of November but it is very clear that turkeys in Michigan are just sick of our s . In the last few weeks we ve seen and heard stories of violent acts coming from turkeys to members of different communities.
Vicious gangs of turkeys are now being said to roam the streets of Charlevoix. This once quite, peaceful and beautiful resort city in the heart of Michigan s up north beauty, is now filled with the hardest turkeys on the streets terrorizing citizens, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Freep reports that because of the boom in turkey population over the last few years, altercations on the street are starting to rise, and it s suggested you make a loud squawking noise if you find yourself in a showdown.
