A nonprofit organization in Ontonagon County is seeking donations after a fire destroyed a vital piece of equipment.
The North Country Snowmobile Club’s trail groomer caught fire on the Lake of the Clouds trail on Friday.
No one was hurt in the incident, but the groomer was a total loss.
Club officials have started a gofundme to defray the cost replacing equipment that is not be covered by insurance
The grooming itself is owned by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The skid, which is pulled behind the groomer to smooth the trails, is owned by the club.
An Alpena man led officers seeking to arrest him on a warrant on a two-county chase in northern Michigan that ended on a snowmobile trail, state police say.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Alpena post observed Jacob Kuchnicki, 23, leave a home around 2:15 p.m. Friday on the M-32 highway, get into a 2000 Chevy Blazer, then visit a Meijer.
Police tried to pull the Blazer over, but say the driver refused to stop, and the chase went north into Presque Isle County and into the village Posen.
Once in Posen, the Blazer traveled down residential streets until reaching the North Eastern State Trail, which snowmobilers use.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, after a long delay throughout 2020, has been working in hopes that the Port Austin State Harbor can open for boaters this spring.
The docks at Port Austin State Harbor were damaged in September 2019 after a ship called the Appledore crashed into them, along with other damage due to rising water levels of Lake Huron and from ice.

BARAGA COUNTY A woman who reportedly fell from a cliff at the Canyon Falls roadside park Friday was taken to the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies from the sheriff’s office responded to the Canyon Falls roadside park on Friday afternoon to a report of a woman who fell from a cliff and was in the water for an unknown amount of time.
Two people located the subject, called 911 and pulled her from the water, police said.
The subject had deep lacerations to her head and was possibly suffering from hypothermia. She was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries and she’s expected to make a full recovery, according to a news release.
