BAY CITY, MI For the second time, a Bay City man has received a prison sentence for sharing child pornography online. This time, though, he will be spending his time in a federal prison rather than a state one.
U.S. District Judge Thomas L. Ludington on Thursday, April 8, sentenced 28-year-old Brandon S. Parsons to 12 years in prison. Once Parsons has served his time, he is to be under supervision for an additional five years, Ludington ordered.
Lester Earley thinks he could leave something valuable behind for his 12 grandkids if he could get his criminal record cleared.
The 65-year-old wants to start a private security agency to eventually pass down to his family, but old felony convictions disqualify him from state licensure and a concealed pistol license.
Earley says his past crimes arose from tough times. In the 1990s, he didn t have a license to carry a concealed weapon and was caught driving with a gun on his seat for protection after he was robbed. Earley said he later cashed a bad check for $200 when he was hard up for cash to support his young daughter. He completed probation and paid off his fines years ago, and now he wants to leave his record in the past.

MARQUETTE The B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant is believed to be related to the current COVID-19 surge in Marquette County and appears to result in a greater degree of illness than previously seen, the Marquette County Health Department has announced.
Dr. Bob Lorinser, MCHD medical director, said in a news release that between March 28 and Sunday, the county reported 138 cases, for a daily average of roughly 15 cases.
The 18-29 age group showed the highest number of cases at 51, followed by the 5-17 age group with 28 cases. Lorinser said the 18-29 age bracket made up 37% of all cases, even though this group comprises only 17% of the county’s population. He noted the 65-and-older age group accounted for 6% of cases and 23% of the population.
