To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a certificate of need authorizing an extension of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“MIOSHA”) COVID-19 Emergency Rules (the “Emergency Rules”). The Emergency Rules were originally set to expire on April 14, however, the Administrative Procedures Act allows for one six-month extension. The Emergency Rules may now remain in place through October 14, 2021. Under the MIOSHA Emergency Rules – issued to replace portions of executive orders deemed unconstitutional by the Michigan Supreme Court – employers are required to put in place a COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan. Critically, as part of the response plan, employers must adopt a policy prohibiting in-person work for employees to the extent that their work activities can feasibly be completed remotely. LANSING, Mich. – Michigan has extended its workplace emergency rules that require remote working when possible and enforce other COVID-19 safety measures at businesses. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity extended the rules by six months until Oct. 14. They were scheduled to expire Wednesday (April 14), but MIOSHA issued an extension as COVID-19 cases rise throughout the state. Michigan officials said the rules can be adjusted or withdrawn at any time, depending on COVID-19 metrics in the state.

Young Professionals Initiative offers meaningful introduction to the world of work

ABC 10/CW5 Young people who are just entering the workforce could have a little more help thanks to some state funding. “Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!” received a $100, 000.00 Young Initiatives grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Development. The funding will provide career preparation, employment opportunities, and education resulting in sustainable employment for young adults, ages 14–24.
