Maine’s Democratic legislative leaders last month sent a scathing letter to Maine Medical Center (MMC), the state’s biggest hospital network, protesting the hiring of anti-union consultants for allegedly intimidating nurses to vote against joining the California Nurses Association. The letter, signed by Maine’s Senate president, the speaker of the House and 75 other legislators, demanded the hospital “fire the consultants” and respect RNs federally-protected right to organize.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – The president of a Muskegon-based union for healthcare workers is accused of using dues for personal expenses and international travel.
Hasan Zahdeh, 50, of Muskegon, is named in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids alleging embezzlement of union funds.
Zahdeh was the only one with access to funds belonging to the Michigan Union of Healthcare Workers, Sarah Pons, a senior investigator for the U.S. Department of Labor, wrote in the complaint.
