SAGINAW, MI A month after her boyfriend was killed when police served a search warrant on their residence, a Chesaning woman has been charged with two new drug offenses.
Samantha Jo Searles, 33, on Friday, Feb. 5, appeared in Saginaw County District Court for arraignment on single counts of maintaining a drug house and conspiracy to possess methamphetamine. The former is punishable by up to two years in prison, while the latter is a 10-year felony.

SAGINAW, MI A recent raid on a Saginaw house saw police seize 62 grams of illicit drugs, according to the Michigan State Police.
The Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (or BAYANET) and the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team on Thursday, Jan. 28, executed a search warrant on a Saginaw residence in the 1800 block of Vermont Street as part of an investigation into the sale of crack cocaine and heroin.

CHESANING, MI Officials are continuing to investigate a police-involved shooting that left a Chesaning man dead at his home, though they are keeping details close to their vest.
“The lead investigator is looking to send the report to the prosecutor in the next week or two,” Michigan State Police Lt. Lizabeth Rich said. “They are still waiting on some reports.”
Detectives from the MSP Second District Investigative Response Team are investigating the shooting.

LANSING, Mich. – Officials arrested a Charlotte, Michigan, man Thursday suspected of calling in a bomb threat to the state Capitol in Lansing.
Michael Varrone, 48, could face charges today, the state attorney general s office said in a news release. The Michigan State Capitol was closed to lawmakers and staff for about two hours Thursday because of the threat.
Varrone was arrested outside his home without incident Thursday afternoon by the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team and Fugitive Team, the release said.
