The first-term Democrat said in southwest Detroit on Tuesday afternoon that she will ask the Legislature to put the funds in the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund, which is overseen by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
The funding which would need to be approved by the Legislature would go toward things like new affordable housing construction, preserving affordable housing, helping with down payments and staving off foreclosures.

Governor Whitmer wants to spend $100 million of federal COVID-19 rescue funds on affordable housing.
It’s her latest proposal for the $6.5 billion in aid approved for Michigan by Congress and President Biden.
The money would go to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority to create housing projects.
It would be boosted by $380 million in private spending.
Whitmer says the funds could potentially produce 2,000 rental units and help up to 6,000 families.
