Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is calling for $100 million in federal coronavirus relief funding to be put in the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer wants to put $100 million in federal coronavirus pandemic relief funding into affordable housing.
The first-term Democrat said in southwest Detroit on Tuesday afternoon that she will ask the Legislature to put the funds in the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund, which is overseen by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
The funding which would need to be approved by the Legislature would go toward things like new affordable housing construction, preserving affordable housing, helping with down payments and staving off foreclosures.
