EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan High School Athletic Association has revised its 2021 Wrestling Tournaments in an effort to reduce the mixing of communities and spread of COVID-19.
Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo will serve as this yearâs host site for the Teams Finals on March 30 and the Individual Finals during the weekend of April 2 and 3.
As in non-COVID seasons, the wrestling postseason will be divided into separate tournament tracks for teams and individuals, with competition at the District, Regional and Finals levels. Competition at the District and Regional levels for both the team and individual tournaments will follow the MHSAAâs traditional formats, which is possible due to the COVID-19 rapid testing required of each participating wrestler. Districts will be wrestled during the week of March 15, with Regionals the following week.

Watch: Thousands of Student Athletes, Parents Rally at Michigan Capitol Against Gretchen Whitmer Orders
31 Jan 2021
Thousands of student athletes, coaches, parents, and organizers rallied at the Michigan Capitol on Saturday for the ability to play school sports.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) has banned winter contact sports, including basketball, hockey, wrestling, and competitive cheer, until “at least” February 21.
Let Them Play, a group organized by parent Jayme McElvany, organized the rally, which featured players giving first-hand accounts of the impact the governor’s restrictions have had:
Mike Meekhof, a reporter with M7 Sports, said there were at least 2,000 people on the Capitol lawn.
Athletic directors in Benzie County say that student morale is down after the recent announcement that winter competitions are delayed until the end of February. “I’m hopeful that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel,” says Seth Wilkinson, a senior on the boys’ basketball team at Benzie Central. For weeks, winter athletes have been in the gym practicing.
