MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) The Air Force pilot who was killed when the F-16 he was flying crashed in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Tuesday was Capt. Durwood “Hawk” Jones, 37, of Albuquerque, N.M., according to the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing.
The Madison-based Fighter Wing revealed Jones’ identity Friday, a day after searchers found the Fighting Falcon and his body in Michigan’s Hiawatha National Forest. The search effort included not only Fighter Wing members but also local emergency responders, the U.S. Coast Guard and other government agencies.
