Person fatally shot while driving in N.J. city, authorities say

One person was fatally shot Monday afternoon while driving in New Brunswick, officials said.
Police found the victim, identified only as male, wounded around 4:30 p.m. near Handy Street and Paul Robeson Boulevard, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. The shooting victim died at a local hospital.
“The investigation is active and continuing,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Video from local news website New Brunswick Today showed three vehicles - two cars and an SUV - that appeared to be involved in a crash and cordoned off at the intersection. New Brunswick police appeared to be taking pictures of another vehicle near the crash scene.

The Middlesex County Prosector is investigating the alleged arrest of teenager in Perth Amboy for riding an unregistered bicycle, authorities said.
His bike and several others were seized by police.
In a Twitter post by Amol Sinha, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, Sinha questioned the local arrest of a teenager for an alleged bicycle violation.
Sinha wrote: This is Perth Amboy, NJ. Are the police really arresting kids over bike registrations? Does it really require this many officers to address whatever situation this is? Police CANNOT continue to be our response to EVERYTHING.
N.J. cop who accused police chief of fixing tickets was wrongly suspended, lawsuit says

A police officer in Middlesex County who reported his chief for allegedly dismissing friends’ traffic tickets has filed suit against the town, claiming he was suspended without cause and has been subjected to false disciplinary charges.
Officer Ricardo Moreira claims in court papers that South Brunswick Police Chief Ray Hayducka routinely ordered cops under his supervision to “dismiss tickets issued against the chief’s friends and favored individuals.”
Moreira, an officer with the department since December 2011, claims Hayducka asked him to dismiss a ticket he wrote someone who illegally parked in a handicapped spot, according to the suit, filed recently in state Superior Court in Middlesex County.
Prosecutor’s office investigating Perth Amboy cops seizing bikes, arresting teen

Hours after a video circulated on social media showing Perth Amboy police officers stopping a group of primarily Black and Latino teenagers riding their bicycles through the city before confiscating their bikes and handcuffing one of the teens, the Prosecutor’s Office announced it was reviewing the incident.
“Every juvenile being taken into custody by law enforcement in Middlesex County is of the utmost concern to Prosecutor (Yolanda) Ciccone and this young person is no different,” Ciccone said in a statement. “What occurred before, during and after the incident depicted is under review.”

PERTH AMBOY, NJ The Middlesex County Prosecutor s office said it is reviewing an incident in Perth Amboy where a teenager on a bike was ordered off the bike and taken into custody by Perth Amboy Police.
A video of the encounter was posted to Twitter, and has been re-tweeted more than 25,000 times. In the video, a group of Perth Amboy police officers, and as many as six squad cars, surround a group of teens on bikes and order them off the bikes. One officer can be told telling the teens they were supposed to have licenses for the bikes.
