Year-long cannabis crackdown yields 5,000 plants

× OFFICERS investigating cannabis cultivation in Barnsley have recovered more than 5,000 plants in the last year, new figures have revealed. The most recent find was at a commercial property on Market Street in the town centre on Tuesday, where more than 650 plants were seized by officers from Barnsley Central’s neighbourhood team and tasking team. Various investigations have yielded hundreds of cannabis plants, particularly those deemed to be Albanian operations - which bosses told the Chronicle has led to 2,091 plants being taken off the street in the last 12 months. A series of stings around the town centre took place last June, where several Albanian nationals were taken into custody and certain hallmarks of such operations were identified - such as high-value equipment, modification to properties such as diverting electricity, and a liveable kitchen, living room and bathroom otherwise surrounded by rooms housing cannabis cultivations.

Haverhill City Council Approves 18-Unit Mid-Rise Housing Building at Former Hardware Store Site

By John Lee Grant | Rendering of proposed six-story, 18-unit building at 15 Middlesex St., Bradford. Despite concerns over a lack of parking, the Haverhill City Council gave approval last night to the construction of an 18-unit apartment building on the site of the former Arthur Sharp Hardware store on Middlesex Street near the Roma Restaurant. Developer Alan Sfeir petitioned the Council to approve three zoning ordinance waivers for his riverfront property plan. Those included allowing 18 units on the quarter-acre site which is only zoned for five, allowing a 91-foot-tall building where there is a height restriction of 55 feet and allowing 18 parking spaces rather than the required 27. Adding to the parking issue, the developer previously agreed to a stipulation he provide access to the Mayor James J. Fiorentini Bradford Rail Trail including providing spaces for public parking.

It was said that about half a million people were living in these awful and terrible conditions in Britain’s capital city. London took the photographs that illustrated his extraordinary book (between 1900 and 1916 the American writer took more than 12 thousand photographs).
