The Middlesex District Attorney’s office will not release the names of the two Newton police officers involved in a Jan. 5, 2021, fatal shooting, until the investigation is over, according an official.
“We are still awaiting the completion of outside reports in this case. This can take some time,” said Meghan Kelly, chief of administration for Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, via email.
According to the DA, two Newton officers shot resident Michael Conlon, who was holding a knife, near an apartment above the candy store Indulge! at 16 Lincoln St., in Newton. He later died at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
As of Jan. 25, the officers had not returned to work, said interim Police Chief Howard Mintz.

A white Massachusetts man is facing a murder charge after he allegedly shouted racial slurs at a Black victim before running him over and killing him. According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the District Attorney and Belmont Chief of Police have confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and charged in the victim’s death.
According to WCVB, Dean Kapsalis has been charged with the death of Henry Tapia, 35, of Boston, who suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by Kapsalis’ vehicle. The two were embroiled in a road rage incident that led to an altercation between the two men.

Massachusetts man accused of killing Black man in ‘road rage’ incident in Belmont now facing murder charge; Suspect yelled racial slurs at victim, officials say

The Massachusetts man accused of yelling racial slurs at a Black man during what authorities called a “road rage” incident in Belmont is now facing a murder charge after authorities say he fatally struck the victim with his truck during the incident.
Authorities from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office said 54-year-old Dean Kapsalis of Hudson was charged with murder in the killing of 34-year-old Henry Tapia.
Kapsalis was originally charged last week with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a civil rights violation causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury in connection with the Jan. 19 killing of Tapia, according to district attorney’s office.
