Management denies wrong site surgeries took place at Tullamore Hospital

Management at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore have moved to deny categorically that any so-called wrong site surgeries took place at the hospital between 2017 and 2020.
It was previously reported by a number of media outlets (not the Offaly Express) that six such surgeries had taken place in Tullamore over the four-year period.
That information was made available nationally through Freedom of Information legislation.
The release covered multiple hospitals but included clerical errors where such incidents of wrong site surgeries were recorded as taking place when they hadn t.
In a statement, the hospital management said: “The Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore wish to clarify categorically that no wrong-site surgery took place in the hospital during the years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.”
Portlaoise admits first Covid-19 patient in more than a week

Portlaoise hospital has admitted its first patient with Covid-19 in more than ten days according to the latest figures from the HSE.
The Covid-19 Acute Hospitals Operations daily report published on December 23 shows that a patient was admitted to the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise in the 24 hours to 8 pm Tuesday, December 22.
This is the first new Covid-19 to receive treatment at the Laois hospital since December 13. There have been no patients with the virus in the hospital in the preceding 10 days. The number being treated in Portlaoise in December was very low with no more than one patient with the virus at any one time.

Six people have been treated at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore on Wednesday following a serious crash at Gurteen Bridge, Killeigh, Co Offaly.
Gardaí attended the scene of the accident involving a car and a jeep at approximately 3:20 pm on Wednesday afternoon, December 16.
Four men in their 20s, the driver and passengers of one vehicle, were taken to hospital in Tullamore with what gardaí described as serious injuries.
The occupants of the second vehicle, a young man and woman in their late teens, were also taken to Tullamore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
