2021 Midwest Open Ice Fishing Tournament Canceled For the third consecutive year, the Midwest Open Ice Fishing Tournament has been canceled. In 2019 and 2020 the tournament was canceled because the ice wasn t thick enough. This year, the tournament has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 150 two-man teams were expected to participate this year. This is one of the largest ice fishing tournaments in the country. Participants come from multiple different states in the U.S. and provinces in Canada. Tom Knutson, the event s organizer, said it was difficult getting a permit for the event with the state s current restrictions.

The tournament that is based out of Wamplers Lake in Brooklyn, Michigan, was canceled in 2019 and 2020 due to a lack of ice thickness. The 2021 edition was scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31, but was officially canceled on Tuesday evening due to COVID-19 restrictions.
