Steven Mark Eisen

Steve’s life began March 26, 1964, in Watervliet, Michigan. He spent his lifetime in Watervliet where he graduated high school in 1982. While in high school he played sports and got to be part of the 1979 football team that made it to the Silverdome. Steve gave back to Watervliet Schools through coaching wrestling for 14 years. While leading the Panther Wrestling program he had numerous individual state qualifiers and placers. In 2009 his team won the regional, unfortunately fell just short at the state meet. In 2012 Steve coached one of his wrestlers to a state title and capped off that huge accomplishment by being named Coach of the Year. Even after hanging up his wrestling shoes you could find him helping at camps, giving the new coaches pointers, supporting from the stands, or still keeping the stopwatch in the corner for drills. COLUMBIA - To most local Columbia residents, they are invisible. The arrival of new refugees in mid-Missouri are often unheeded, and their stories unheard. “A lot of our clients are fleeing war … militia conflict, a lot of gender-based violence and sexual violence,” said Grace Wildenhaus of Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri, a nonprofit which receives some federal funding that also relies heavily on community support.  “There’s a lack of central control.” Wildenhaus believes nothing is more important than getting the community involved with refugee services. As the only refugee resettlement agency in the region, it provides life-saving resources, both from donations and from federal assistance.

Robert Loyd (Bob) Smith

Mon, 12/14/2020 - 11:15am     Robert Loyd (Bob) Smith was born in Ackerly, Texas, on June 5, 1936, and died in Lubbock, Texas, on December 10, 2020.  He enjoyed life during those 84 years.   He went to Lamesa public schools and graduated from Lamesa High School in 1954.     After he served in the Marines, Bob married Linda Esmond on June 4, 1960, at Midway Baptist Church near Lamesa.  In 1972, when he had two children and lived in Fort Worth, he graduated from Texas Christian University, with a degree in physics.      When he lived in Fort Worth, Bob became a pilot and joined Civil Air Patrol.  After the family moved back to Lamesa, he was instrumental in rescuing a plane that had been stolen from California Civil Air Patrol, used to transport narcotics, and crashed in Mexico.  Bob had the licenses he needed to work on the plane and declare it airworthy, and then he had enough confidence in his work to fly the plane to Lamesa and oversee its restoratio
