Seven seats for the first time, more power and longer range for incoming new plug-in hybrid SUV
The incoming new-generation 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been previewed ahead of the plug-in hybrid mid-size SUV’s launch in Australia early next year.
Mitsubishi has also today confirmed that the Outlander PHEV will be offered in seven-seat configuration for the first time, ensuring it will be among the first three-row plug-in hybrid SUVs from a mainstream brand in Australia, joining the incoming Kia Sorento PHEV and Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV that are both due late this year.

NHTSA Is Urged to Make Car Seat Side-Impact Standards
Recently, the attorneys general representing 17 states and Washington, D.C. requested that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration set side-impact standards for child car seats. Congress first asked for the NHTSA to create side-impact standards more than 20 years ago, but it still has not done so.
Why do the states want side-impact standards set?
New York and Connecticut are leading the charge in asking the agency to make side-impact standards. In a letter, the state attorneys general wrote, “As a result of NHTSA’s inaction, there currently is no government standard for side-impact testing in the United States for any child restraint system.”

Plug-in hybrid version of facelifted mid-size SUV brings 55km of EV range and can power your home
Three versions of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV (plug-in hybrid) will arrive in Australia next month priced from $46,490 plus on-road costs.
Bringing the number of variants in the facelifted 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross range released last November to 12, the first plug-in version starts just $500 higher than the cheapest plug-in hybrid mainstream mid-size SUV, the MG HS PHEV (from $45,990 plus ORCs).
However, it’s also only $1500 more affordable than Mitsubishi’s own Outlander PHEV (from $47,990), which will be replaced by a bigger and likely more expensive model later this year.
