Arts orgs persevere during pandemic - Winona Post > Article

(1/27/2021)   Great River Shakespeare Festival (GRSF) leaders recognized that many of their company members have been facing financial obstacles during the pandemic. “Because most of them are in the theatre industry, the entire industry was shut down, and so a large section of the people that we work with have been completely unemployed,” GRSF Managing Director Aaron Young said. To boost morale and keep communication open, they began reading plays virtually with company members on Monday nights. They have focused on reading the works of Black and Indigenous playwrights and read company members’ pieces, all while enjoying the opportunity to stay connected with one another and do something new.

MMAM opens two new exhibitions (1/13/2021) The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona will open two new temporary exhibitions in January. Opening on January 8 is “Tony Duran: California,” which features the photography of award-winning commercial, fashion, celebrity portrait, and architectural photographer Tony Duran. “Frederick D. Somers: Miracle of Waters,” featuring oil and pastel paintings by the Northfield, Minn.,-native artist, opens on January 15. MMAM will be reopening to the public on Tuesday, January 12, in addition, there will be online versions of both exhibitions available for free at MMAM.org for those unable to attend in person. Minnesota Marine Art Museum opens two new exhibits WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) - The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) is set to open two new temporary exhibitions this January. The non-profit museum, located at 800 Riverview Drive, plans to feature two new art displays community members can view free of charge. Individuals can see the pieces both in person and virtually by visiting the MMAM website. MMAM is scheduled to reopen on January 12. Residents can visit the gallery Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The first exhibit, Tony Duran: California, features photography from award-winning commercial, fashion, celebrity portrait, and architectural photographer Tony Duran. A Winona native, Duran has served as a freelance photographer all over the world.
