The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says 2020 was the deadliest year in Minnesota in more than five years. The DPS says they've seen an alarming spike in speeding - The Minnesota State Patrol ticketed over 1,068 drivers who were going 100+ mph 2020 which is double the amount of citations issued in 2019. Col. Matt Langer, chief of the Minnesota State Patrol, said, “We are very frustrated and appalled by the lack of compliance to Minnesota speed limits by some drivers in our state. Traveling above the speed limit, especially more than 100 mph, is unacceptable and puts the lives of everyone around you in danger. If you speed, expect our troopers to stop you and cite you with a ticket. Our hope is that motorists heed our warning and slow down!” Col. Langer said the State Patrol will have extra enforcement all across Minnesota looking for speeds for the next several months.

(KNSI) – The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for a large chunk of the state, including central Minnesota, as an arctic blast locks in place for the next several days.
The wind chill advisory starts at midnight tonight and goes until at least noon on Tuesday.
The area will see highs in the single digits above or below zero each day, with overnight lows ranging in the teens to 20s below zero. At temperatures that cold, any breath of wind will send the windchills plunging into the 30s and even 40s below zero. Forecasters say wind chills will be coldest during the late-night through midmorning hours and improve to around 25 below zero each afternoon.
