ST. PAUL, Minn. (KWNO)-The Minnesota Department of Health is distributing vaccine doses to college campuses.
Winona County Public Health Supervisor Melanie Tatge told KWNO Wednesday that Winona State and Minnesota State College Southeast received a combined allotment of 100 doses to administer to students and staff. Tatge said MDH is encouraging members of the 18-24 age group, who saw the highest number of COVID-19 infections during last year’s surge, to get their shot.
Tatge points out the university’s allotment comes as the spring semester winds down. She said students should still get their shot in Winona, even if they plan on living elsewhere during the summer break.

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) – A project to repair a bridge in Winona will begin Monday. The bridge rehabilitation project on Winona County Road 17 was delayed from last week due to forecasted low overnight temperatures.
The cold nights would hamper the placement and curing of the concrete patches, forcing a closure longer than planned. The lanes will be closed at eight tomorrow morning.
They will start 300 feet south of the TH 43 intersection near Minnesota State College Southeast. Traffic will flow to one side of the bridge at a time and limited to one lane in each direction during the project. The construction is expected to last through the week.

Blair is the administrator of Sauer Health Care in Winona. She was nominated by Annie Ruppert, the human resources director at Sauer.Â
âOur small nonprofit nursing home became only the fourth facility in the state of Minnesota to be exposed to the COVID-19 virus. At that time very little guidance was available, not to mention protective equipment and, more importantly, access to testing. Luckily for the Sauer team, we had Sara on our side. From the very first day, and 33days after that, Sara was on the front line sun up to sun down,â Ruppert said. âQuite simply, our staff team rallied despite the uncertainty, fear and daunting workload based in large part upon Saraâs genuine and unwavering leadership.â

WINONA Marsha Danielson has been named the next president of Minnesota State College Southeast.
Danielson will take over the post on July 1 from interim President Larry Lundblad, who has led the two-campus college since 2018. Dr. Danielson brings deep knowledge of the Minnesota State system, a breadth of experience building partnerships, and a thorough understanding of the region, said Devinder Malhotra, chancellor of Minnesota State. I am confident that her leadership will help Minnesota State College Southeast continue its upward trajectory and propel it to even greater heights.
