Hundreds protest at Brooklyn Center Police Department for 4th night after shooting Ex-cop who fatally shot Daunte Wright charged with 2nd degree manslaughter Replay Video UP NEXT Hundreds of people gathered outside the police department in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on Wednesday evening as protests over the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright continued for a fourth consecutive night. The crowd tonight continued to present some public safety challenges as they pulled on the fence, shot pyrotechnics, lobbed bricks and bottles over the fence, Minnesota Department of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said at a press conference just after midnight. I think tonight we were around 500 people there, yelling and chanting late into the evening.

Officer charged in Wright killing

Social Share MINNEAPOLIS –The white suburban police officer who fatally shot a young Black motorist during a traffic stop in Minnesota, igniting several nights of civil unrest, was charged with manslaughter on Wednesday, a day after the officer turned in her badge. Daunte Wright, 20, was pulled over Sunday in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center for what police said was an expired vehicle registration, then struggled with police and was shot dead by officer Kimberly Potter, 48, who had threatened to stun him with a Taser but fired her handgun instead. The shooting escalated tensions in a region already on edge over the ongoing trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged with murder in the use of deadly force last May against George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who was suspected of passing a bogus $20 bill.

‘I can feel their anger, pain and fear’: Brooklyn Center’s first Black mayor on Daunte Wright protests and America’s biggest challenge Andrew Buncombe © Provided by The Independent On Sunday night, as hundreds of people gathered outside Brookyn Center police station – protesting over the killing of Daunte Wright – a slightly built figure was walking way from scenes that would quickly turn chaotic. His face bore a look of concern. Yet, he paused long enough to mention he lived in the area and to give his name – “Mike Elliott”. Within hours, if it hadn’t happened already, Elliott, 37, the mayor of Brooklyn Center, would be cast into the centre of a storm. His community of 30,000 would be rocked, both by the shooting dead by police of 20-year-old Wright, and the force’s response to the protests – in particular the excessive use of tear gas and rubber bullets.

Rev Al Sharpton, Ben Crump Speak Out Following Daunte Wright Killing, Cop Charge

The two leaders, along with family affected by police violence, convened in NYC. Published 8 hours ago Written by Paul Meara During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon (April 14) in New York City, Rev. Al Sharpton and attorney Ben Crump, along with family affected by police violence, reacted to the charges against former Minneapolis police officer Kim Potter, who was just hit with a charge of second degree manslaughter and arrested. “It is my feeling and the feelings of the many delegates here that manslaughter 2 is the least [Potter] should get. The least, possibly more,” said Sharpton regarding the charge Potter faces for killing 20-year-old Daunte Wright.
