Testimony resumed Thursday in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the fired Minneapolis officer charged in the death of George Floyd. Dr. Martin Tobin, an expert who specializes in pulmonology and critical care, was the first witness called to the stand.
Tobin, a Chicago-based physician who is a renowned expert on pulmonology (medical issues involving the lungs and respiratory system), testified that Floyd died of a low level of oxygen.

The latter half of witness testimony in the eighth day of trial of former officer Derek Chauvin focused on the physical evidence gathered at the scene where George Floyd was arrested and held under Chauvin s knee for more than nine minutes.
Three forensic specialists fielded questions from prosecutors and Chauvin s defense lawyer about a handful of pills and pill fragments that were recovered from the Mercedes that Floyd was in, as well as squad car 320, from which the Black man was dragged to the ground by Chauvin and three other Minneapolis police officers.
George Floyd died of a low level of oxygen as Derek Chauvin pinned him to the street, doctor says
A renowned pulmonary critical care doctor testified Thursday morning that George Floyd died from a “low level of oxygen” when former police officer Derek Chauvin pinned him to the street and restricted his ability to breathe.
“This caused damage to his brain that we see, and it also caused a PEA arrhythmia that caused his heart to stop,” Dr. Martin Tobin of Chicago testified, referring to pulseless electrical activity, a type of cardiac arrest.
“The cause of the low level of oxygen was shallow breathing,” he added. “Small breaths. Small tidal volumes. Shallow breaths that weren’t able to carry the air through his lungs down to the essential areas of the lungs that get oxygen into the blood and get rid of the carbon dioxide.”

Steven Crowder sparked backlash on Twitter on Wednesday for suggesting he would get the producer of his show to kneel on his neck for nine minutes, in a not-so-subtle reference to George Floyd s death. Today I am going to test the theory and have my producer kneel on my neck for 9 minutes, live on concrete, Crowder, a former Fox News contributor, tweeted. No tricks, no cuts. We need to walk a mile in another s shoes.
