(KWNO)-The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office says they arrested and charged 45-year-old James E. Riley for allegedly killing his father.
Deputies responded to a rural Zumbrota Falls address Friday evening where they say they found 73-year-old Edward J. Riley deceased. James Riley is being held in the Wabasha County Jail.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension assisted Wabasha County deputies with processing the scene. Authorities say there is no danger to the public and the investigation is still open.

Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander said politics appear to influence why some people apply for a permit to carry a firearm, as it has become typical to see a rise in applications in years with presidential elections.
Glander said he doesn t ask people why they are applying for a permit but it s possible the COVID-19 pandemic played a role in why some people sought permits in 2020. Just from listening to people, there were definitely concerns when COVID hit and I think that, combined with an election year, just the unknown that was out there, Glander said.
According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension report, in 2020, 96,554 people were issued a permit to carry in Minnesota, almost double the 51,404 that received a permit in 2019.

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of handgun carry permits issued in Minnesota last year was almost double the total from 2019 and was the highest since the Personal Protection Act went into effect in 2003.
A new report from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Sheriff s throughout the state received nearly 102,000 permit applications and issued 96,554 firearm carry permits in 2020. The total from the previous year was just under 51,500 and the previous record high total was 71,156 in 2016.
The Olmsted County Sheriff s Office reported receiving 1877 applications.1580 permits were issued last year, 43 applications were rejected, and 253 of the applications are still pending. Hennepin County issued the most carry permits last year at 11,346.
