MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The search has ended in Moorhead for a man wanted for murder in western North Dakota.
Moorhead police say 25-year-old Oscar Ortiz was discovered hiding in the stairwell of an apartment building in the 500 block of 32nd Ave. South Tuesday afternoon.
The arrest capped a day-long search for Ortiz. He’s accused of shooting a man multiple times near Killdeer on Sunday. Police say a gun was recovered.
Ortiz will be held in the Clay County Jail until he’s returned to Dunn County.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension had joined the search for Ortiz, who was considered armed and dangerous.

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A notorious record that stood for 25 years was toppled last year as Minnesota experienced a surge in violent crime.
The annual Uniform Crime Report from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension shows the state experienced a record number of homicides in 2020. The total was 185, which was up 58 percent when compared to the previous year and was 2 above the previous record set in 1995 when Minneapolis was given the nickname Murderapolis.
The BCA report shows there was a 62 percent increase in the number of assaults on police officers attacked in the line of duty. The 667 incidents reported in 2020 also set a new record. The state agency also says there were 31 reports of officer-involved shootings in 2020 compared with only 6 in 2019.

Ryan Bialke, 37, died of gunshot wounds, a release said, after responding to a call regarding a suicidal male with possible children present. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the loss of one of our brave Red Lake Tribal Police Officers this morning, said the release from Michael Burns, Red Lake s Director of Public Safety.
