The Alabama aunt of Daunte Wright the 20-year-old unarmed Black man shot and killed by a suburban Minneapolis police officer Sunday that sparked protests across the country said her family will needlessly have to lay him to rest.
Officer Kim Potter who fatally shot Wright and Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon resigned Tuesday.
Also on Tuesday, St. Paul declared another curfew: This one for 10 p.m. Our hearts go out to Daunte Wrightâs family and friends, and to their community, Red Wing Mayor Mike Wilson said. Our hearts also go out to the thousands of cops all across our nation who leave their families every day to protect and serve, and who are devastated by what happened in Brooklyn Center. Here in Red Wing, I am so proud of our police department, proud of their extensive crisis training and proud of the professionalism, care and respect they demonstrate to every member of our community as they work 24/7 to keep us safe.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced sweeping changes in how we work, with many workers doing their jobs remotely for much of the past year.
A swift though lesser-remarked-on transformation happened as well in medical care. As lockdowns loomed, state and federal regulators eased restrictions on telehealth. That led to more virtual visits in Minnesota and elsewhere, with doctors and patients communicating via video or a phone call in lieu of a clinic appointment. A year later, there s a timely debate at the Minnesota Capitol over whether to maintain telehealth expansion measures, which are set to expire 60 days after the end of the peacetime COVID emergency.
