MINNEAPOLIS A video has emerged, which shows an ax-wielding man destroying property and wreaking havoc at George Floyd Square in Minneapolis over the weekend. The incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday, but has yet to be reported to police, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
According to the video posted on Instagram by “38thandchicagogfs,” a truck arrives at the location and a man emerges from its driver’s side door, walking directly toward the memorial display. With the vehicle apparently left running and situated in the middle of the street, the man topples over displays and removes signs identifying the square.
Ron Nixon to keynote IRE21 virtual conference
Ron Nixon, global investigations editor for The Associated Press and a longtime IRE member, will be the keynote speaker at the IRE21 virtual conference in June.
The conference will include several other featured speakers who will talk about their experiences covering the pandemic, social justice protests, Asian-American hate, international corruption and more.
As the keynote speaker, Nixon embodies the spirit of IRE through his commitment to mentorship, training and volunteering with the organization.
“The board is excited to have chosen Ron as the keynote for this year’s annual conference,” IRE Board President Cheryl W. Thompson said. “Whether it’s mentoring younger IRE members or pitching in on a panel, Ron has contributed so much to this organization over the years. And his commitment to diversity is unwavering. We look forward to his inspiring message.”
Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard said dozens of law enforcement agencies across the state and nation are facing similar challenges in filling positions and he doesn’t expect that to change anytime soon. The sheer number of agencies hiring means applicants have their choice of locales and competition is stiff, including from other local agencies, Goddard noted.

The incident – which happened around 2 a.m. Sunday at the site where Floyd died last May – has yet to be reported to police, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Surveillance footage first shows a truck pulling up to the site and a man emerging from its driver’s side door, walking directly toward the memorial display.
With the vehicle left running in the middle of the street, the man then topples over displays and rips off signs adorning the square.
